What are the benefits?

• The increased adoption of high quality, energy saving CFLs on a wide scale in Asia will contribute towards reduced carbon emission.
• A formalized system for identifying quality CFLs also provides a good guide to the price level of quality CFLs. Manufacturers of shoddy products and their lower prices can be better identified. Manufacturers that can produce good quality CFLs are thus incentivized to produce quality products for better returns and at the same time reduced cost of conforming to diverse testing requirements that are overcome through harmonization.
• Asian governments and policy makers do not need to re-invent the wheel by developing their own guidelines, the ALC harmonized standards is the result of detailed research and studies as to what is best for Asian countries.
• Bulk buyers of CFLs can easily identify quality products through the ALC register without having to co-ordinate or create new specs for each country that they work in.
